driveway surfacing
Question....
My concrete driveway is bordered by a lawn, and is too narrow.
Can it be widened before resin bonded gravel is applied?

Answer....
Yes, the grassed area would need to be excavated to a depth of 250mm to allow for 150mm of type 1 sub-base which is well compacted and 100mm of concrete is then applied.

Question....
The gas board have dug a trench from the footpath crossing to my garage entrance and have left an unsightly scar on my tarmac driveway, any solution?

Answer....
Yes, the answer is to have the drive resurfaced with micro asphalt, a 6mm coating will hide any scarring and has the added benefits of sealing the surface to prevent weather and frost damage also your tired and scared surface would like a new tarmac surface for a fraction of the cost.

Question....
Present concrete parking area has cracks, and one small section has sunk, your thoughts please?

Answer....
Micro asphalt in black or red or either of our resin systems could resolve this issue. Any cracks would normally be filled prior to application, but areas that have serious sinking or structural failure would need to be cut out and replaced prior to any application. 95% of the projects we work on need not be excavated, it is bad news for the environment and your pocket!

Question....
Sounds very expensive to me, what are comparative costs?.

Answer....
We do not know of any other surfacing method that does not entail digging out your present driveway and starting from fresh. Also as our unique asphalt and resin bonded resurfacing does not affect damp course levels or drainage issues it entails a lot less work and therefore costs are dramatically reduced. We encourage our clients to have two or three quotes before you call us this way you can see for your self but please remember some businesses will use inferior products or cut corners with materials so be sure to ask them for the specifications and references.

Question....
Forgive me for asking but what experience do you have in resurfacing work?.

Answer....
I have worked for twenty years in a hands on and managerial capacity carrying out various resurfacing and civil engineering projects for large companies such as Colas, Ringway & Tarmac and have carried out numerous works for various councils stretching from Scotland to Sussex.

Question....
My "better half" wants to have our driveway and path dug up and replaced with a red tarmac because that is what is at her parents house and she likes the look of it.
Have had estimates that made my eyes water and am not made of money, help please?

Answer....
If your present driveway is in reasonable condition there is no reason whatsoever to have have it dug up, if your drive has a decent shape and is structurally sound micro asphalt in red or resin bonded aggregate has a choice of red coloured gravels available. If the shape and condition is poor or you have drainage issues resin bound aggregate can be applied to cover the present black surface.
Micro asphalt is a third of the price of tarmac and resin bonded aggregate is half the cost of block paving (your choice).

Question....
My tarmac driveway has started to shed stones from the surface and has gone a grey colour?

Answer....
Sounds very much like old age creeping in!
The symptoms you describe are quite normal in an older surface, the bitumen content of the original tarmac surface has oxidised (dried out) and consequently lost it's adhesion.
Any of our resurfacing products will solve this problem.
